For their company launch, Atum Works founders Lucas and Malcolm wanted to capture the scale of their 3D nanoprinting technology. The concept: a single shot zooming from outer space all the way down to a nano-scale figurine resting on a fingertip.

We brought together satellite imagery, drone plates, a dolly-mounted probe, and scanning electron microscope footage—capturing as much as possible in-camera to convey the physical reality of the technology.

The figurine is truly microscopic. When our DP framed the starting macro shot, we thought it wasn't on the finger yet. We're talking about 0.1 millimeters—roughly the diameter of a human hair.
